LETTING AGENCIES AND EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES HAPPY TO
DISCRIMINATE GlosREC views with concern the revelations in the BBC Programme ‘ Inside Out West’ that the practice of racial discrimination is still widespread across South West England. The programme highlighted the case where 17 out of 30 letting agencies agreed to ensure that a potential landlord who wished to let his flat to a white tenant only would have his instructions carried out. In another case 25 out of the 30 employment agencies approached agreed to accommodate an employer who wanted to employ only a white receptionist. GlosREC has referred this matter to the Network of South West Racial Equality Councils for action on a regional basis and has passed a transcript of the programme to the equality and Human Rights Commission with a request that 6they report on what action they propose to take. |
